GRADING SCALE BEFORE 100-93 92--85 84--78 77-70 69 & Below GPA calculations incremental at each numeric point. (97 different from 93) NOW 100-90=A4.0 GPA 89-80=B 3.0 GPA 79--70=C2.0 GPA 69-60=D1.0 GPA 59 & below=F0.0 GPA ** higher passing grade and GPA’s should be higher

Additional Quality Points BEFORE (for grades 10, 11 & 12) ● Standard Level--no additional ○ 96= 4.0 ● Honors--+1 additional ○ 96= 5.0 ● Advanced Placement (AP) +2 additional ○ 96=6.0 ● Int’l Baccalaureate (IB) +2 additional ○ 96=6.0 NOW Grades 10, 11 & 12 remain the same GRADE 9 and beyond ●Standard--no additional ○96=4.0 ●Honors-- ½ point additional ○96=4.5 ●AP & IB-- 1 point additional ○96=5.0

Grade Suppression Beginning the Fall of 2015, students may “suppress” a failing grade if they take the exact course over again. Example: Biology Honors=55 Retake Biology Honors=75 Not Biology Honors=55 Biology=75 Original failing grade removed from transcript.

Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) CDM offers students the opportunity to accelerate their learning by earning credit through demonstrating mastery of course content, without being required to complete classroom instruction for a certain amount of seat time. Students who wish to pursue CDM will need to show mastery of course content by completing two phases. ● In phase I, students must complete an exam of course content. ●In phase II, students must create a product/performance that exhibits a deeper understanding and application of course content.

CDM Exceptions The following courses are excluded from CDM: Career and Technical Education (CTE) a.work-based learning courses (co-op, internship, apprenticeship) b.courses that have a clinical setting as a requirement of the course, such as Early Childhood Education I & II, and Nursing Fundamentals c.Advanced Studies courses or any course without state technical standards English Language Learner (ELL) courses Healthful Living required courses AP/IB courses

DIPLOMA ENDORSEMENTS CAREER ENDORSEMENT--students must meet ALL of the following requirements ❏ Successfully complete Math 1, 2, 3 and Advanced Math (Pre-Calculus or AFM) ❏ Earn an un-weighted GPA of 2.6 ❏ Earn at least one industry-recognized credential (Silver WorkKeys or industry certification). ❏ Complete a CTE Concentrator in one of the approved state clusters (http://www.ncpublicschools.org/cte/curriculum/ (http://www.ncpublicschools.org/cte/curriculum/ COLLEGE ENDORSEMENT-- ❏ Successfully complete Math 1, 2, 3 and Advanced Math (Pre-Calculus or AFM) ❏ Earn an un-weighted GPA of 2.5

Endorsements Continue COLLEGE/UNC ENDORSEMENT-- ❏ Successfully complete Math 1, 2, 3 and Advanced Math (Pre-Calculus or AFM) ❏ Successfully complete Chemistry or Physics as their physical science ❏ Successfully complete 2 levels of the same World Language ❏ Earn an unweighted GPA of 2.5 NC ACADEMIC SCHOLARS ENDORSEMENT ❏ Successfully complete Math 1, 2, 3 and Advanced Math (Pre-Calculus or AFM) ❏ Successfully complete Chemistry or Physics as their physical science ❏ Successfully complete 2 levels of the same World Language ❏ Earned credit for 3 higher level courses in grades 11 & 12 that carry additional quality points ❏ Earn an unweighted GPA of 3.5

Endorsements Continue GLOBAL LANGUAGE ENDORSEMENT ❏ Students earn a combined GPA of 2.5 for English 1, 2, 3 & 4 ❏ Establish proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English based on the following: ❏ Complete levels 1-4 earning a 2.5 GPA in these courses ❏ Pass a DPI approved exam establishing Intermediate Low proficiency or Higher (ACTFL) ❏ Limited English Proficiency--complete requirements above & a score of developing on WIDA VARIOUS SEALS FOR DIPLOMA & Reflected on Transcript (top right corner)

New Policies: Student School Assignment New policies: Policy 4120, 4125 &4125 R&P 4120 specifies who is eligible to attend Orange County Schools ● Meeting domicile requirements, charging of tuition, transfers outside OCS District, student suspension/expulsion 4125--School Designations status (open, closed or limited), Admission & Transfer Deadlines, Application Process, and Priority 4125 R&P-- Regulation & Procedures relating to the above items

DOMICILE--Policy 4120 ❏ A permanent & established home, as distinguished from a temporary place of residence. Merely owning or renting “property” doesn’t establish legal domicile. A student’s domicile is based on parent’s domicile ❏ Proof: Deeds, lease, property taxes, vehicle registration, utility bill for home ❏ Exceptions: Homeless or student not living with parent (court ordered legal custodian), Foster Home, Exceptional Children program placement. ❏ Divorced or Separated Parent--custody order will be followed; without an order, parents must agree on one domicile. Determination=Outside of OCS area--Discretionary Admissions Inside of OCS area--Discretionary Transfer

PRIORITIES FOR PROCESSING REQUESTS (limited or open only) 1. Students currently attending for 2015-16 & requesting to return for 2016-17 2. Current or Initial student requests to attend school with siblings 3. Students whose parents are full-time employees of the school requesting or feeder school (based on appropriate age). 4. Student admitted specifically to Calendar Choice (Hillsborough ES) or Program Choice (IB at CRHS or Engineering at Central ES) 5. Other OCS students requesting reassignment 6. Out of District students requesting discretionary admission to an open school (CRHS not available)

Other Information ❏ Transportation is the responsibility of parent/guardian. ❏ There will be a wait list that will remain active until the first day of school. ❏ Parents will have 3 days to respond to a wait list notification Lists are purged after the first day and will not be used for future requests.

Notification of Approval Families will be notified on or before APRIL 1ST, 2016

Revocation of Approval ❏ The Superintendent may revoke an approval and return a student if: ❏ Student has issues of excessive tardies or absences ❏ Persistent, inappropriate behaviors arise following the approval of transfer ❏ Determination that the transfer approval was based on false information ❏ Failure to participate in School Choice or Calendar program
