1 Supporting Your Child in the IB MYP and Diploma Programme

2 The Diploma Programme Over 2 years students: Study six subjects complete an extended essay follow a theory of knowledge course (TOK) participate in creativity, action, service (CAS) Normally: three of the six subjects are studied at higher level (courses representing 240 teaching hours) the remaining three subjects are studied at standard level (courses representing 150 teaching hours). 42 points maximum awarded for the subjects (7 points each)

4 IB Diploma Candidates:  Write an independent research Essay of up to 4,000 words based on Academic Subjects in the DP NISC Diploma Candidates:  Write an independent research Report of up to 3000 words based on possible future study and career choices Extended Essay

5 Students:  Ask questions about what they learn  Consider knowledge in their own culture, in the cultures of others and in the wider world.  Develop self-awareness as thinkers and communicators  Act responsibly in an uncertain world  Undertake critical thinking, self-reflection, intellectual, physical and creative challenges  Develop awareness of themselves as responsible members of their communities Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

6  Creativity  arts activities  the creativity students demonstrate in designing and implementing service projects  Action  participation in individual and team sports  taking part in expeditions and in local or international projects.  Service  a host of community and social service activities  Eg: helping children with special needs, visiting hospitals and working with refugees or homeless people  3-4 hours each week during the two years of the programme Creativity, Action, Service (CAS)

13 GUIDING PRINCIPLES OF THE MYP  Connect the topic to the world beyond the classroom  Connect the topic to what students are really interested in  Allow plenty of time for conversation  Allow plenty of time for students to get up & move around and to make things  Make sure all students have the opportunity to voice their own ideas/opinions
