4 How do early childhood educators gain a better understanding of issues as they relate to early childhood education as well as stay up– to-date on issues and trends? Fortunately, the field has several professional organizations, and this week we will be looking at a few of them. 4

7  Do you know how many hours of Professional Development or training are required annually for the career in which you are interested? If so, please tell us.

10 In order to accrue professional development hours, you will need to attend trainings or attend an early Childhood Conference.

11 On the DB this week we’ve been talking about early childhood organizations. Many organizations hold annual conferences. Below is a link that provides information about actual conferences (not organizations) that have been scheduled. Let’s take a field trip to the link and find a conference that interest you and come back ready to share a brief description of the conference. Remember to make a note of the number of Professional Development hours the conference will provide. *Remember to type in a key word. http://www.childcareexchange.com/conference_calend ar/index.php

13 1. Convince your supervisor about how this conference will benefit both you and your center. 2. Shop for your plane ticket early; consider a Saturday night stay. Consider driving. 3. Find a budget motel near conference location. 4. Share cab-rental cars are expensive. 5. Consider presenting-it may reduce conference fees. 6. Register a day or two before early registration ends-it’s less expensive. 7. Food-attend free events, bring breakfast and snacks. 8. Can you think of anything I’ve left off? 9. 14  What are the author’s credentials?  When was it written?  Why was it written?  Is the article located in a scholarly journal (in the KU library or Google Scholar)?  Does the link include.org,.edu or.gov?
