2 Analyze each sentence for parallel structure. If the sentence is correct- justify how; if the sentence is incorrect, revise to make it parallel. 1. After you eat tuna salad from the campus cafeteria, not only will your stomach rumble, but you will also sneeze for hours from the generous addition of MSG. 2. Natalia blinked her eyes, she wiped her glasses, and then squinted at the screen, but she could not decipher the small text crammed onto the presentation slide. 3. Neither the unhappy man with the cold soup nor the irate woman with an empty glass of iced tea could get Gloria’s attention, for this waitress was too busy flirting with Jose.

4  You will be put into groups and given a text to read and analyze.  Within your group, read the text, discuss the text features and what makes your text unique (i.e. title, greeting, states an opinion, etc.) decide the purpose of your text, and the audience of your text  Determine which type of text your group has. Check for accuracy.  Then with your group, fill out your graphic organizer noting features, purpose and audience.  Each member will become an expert on your group’s type of text.

5  Now, you will be divided into new groups.  Since you are an expert on your type of text, you will be responsible for teaching your new group about your type of text. › Be sure to discuss items from your graphic organizer, including text features, purpose, and audience. › Note the differences and similarities of the different types of texts

6  Discuss what you found…  What text features made your text unique?  What was the purpose of your text?  Who was the audience of your text and how did that make a difference in how it was written?

7  Now you will be given a Constructed Response Prompt that will ask you to write in one of the formats, for a specific purpose and audience.  Complete the writing assignment  You may use notes
