Who is Ms. Villella? Who is Ms. Villella? Senior at the University of Rhode Island. Rhody, Rhody, Rhody! Studying English and Secondary Education Born and raised in Johnston, RI. Older sister to Jordan, a fellow Rhody Ram Volunteer for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation Lover of literature, dogs, 90’s boy bands, and dessert… especially dessert.

Why do I want to become a teacher? I was in a transitory stage as a college sophomore, figuring out what path I had wanted to take in contemplation of my future. I had enrolled in EDC 102 at URI with Professor Moore in the Spring of 2013. His enthusiasm and genuine love for education was contagious. Through his leadership, I discovered that I, too, felt most at home in front of a classroom. Professor Moore was one of many educators who have influenced and inspired me to pursue a career in teaching. I have been lucky enough to have known teachers who have changed my life. I know that it would be a privilege to be able to do the same for someone else.

Managerial Approach My students and I will work with one another to maximize time on task to make the very best of learning opportunities. Individual accountability is essential. Each student should be taking responsibility for his/her work. For example, deadlines should be honored.

Humanistic Approach I will make it a point to understand where my students are coming from. I will never shut them out or turn them away. I will listen to them and trust that they are looking to make progress. I take pride in knowing my students’ goals and needs. I can use this insight to help them develop, both academically and socially.

Authoritative Approach Trust and respect in the classroom is critical for effectual learning. Students will be expected to take rules seriously. Clear, guiding classroom expectations will be established and enforced.

Behavioral Approach Students will be recognized for displaying positive behavior. Negative behavior will be discouraged- students will learn to focus this energy on something more productive.

My Philosophy of Teaching My Philosophy of Teaching While I am more inclined to take some approaches over others, I believe that all approaches complement and complete one another. Therefore, I plan on combining certain tactics to effectively make the most of each child’s experience as a student in our community. As an educator, my job is to ensure that my students are obtaining as much valuable information as possible, while doing so in a positive environment. This can be accomplished through students and teachers working side by side as a cohesive unit to communicate efficiently and exceed expectations. Together, we can achieve more and successfully learn to grow.
