Trades Description Act It is a criminal offence to ‘falsely describe’ goods or services. Care must be taken when: Wording the menu (e.g. frozen food cannot be called fresh) Describing menu items to customers Letting customers know about extra costs e.g. service charges Describing service conditions

Food Labelling Regulations 2006 The following information should be on a label: ‘use by’ or ‘best before’ date List of ingredients in weight order Name of manufacturer Address of manufacturer Name of food and brief description Weight (the ‘e’ symbol = average weight) Barcode (where & when manufactured and price) Special claims (suitable for vegetarians, low in fat) Method of storage, making & cooking
