Where: Outside the town of Ypres, Belgium. Also known as the Third Battle of Ypres When: June-Nov 1917. Canada’s involvement began Oct 26 1017. Notable Because: Another “big push” by Haig but after Vimy we had distinguished ourselves. Currie leads Canada using “bite and hold” strategy due to horrible conditions. This battle is defined by MUD. Canada’s Role: We push the Germans back, only to have them take the town a few weeks later. Currie predicts 16,000 casualties and is almost exactly right. Over 1000 bodies never recovered in the mud.
