5 impose Very high taxes have recently been imposed on cigarettes. Judges are imposing increasingly heavy fines for minor driving offences. The council has imposed a ban on alcohol in the city parks.

6 label The parcel was clearly labelled 'Fragile'. If you spend any time in prison, you're labelled as a criminal for the rest of your life.

7 liberate They said they sent troops in to liberate the country from a dictator. Muoz Rivera helped liberate Puerto Rico from Spain.

8 resist The soldiers resisted the enemy attacks for two days. The party leader resisted demands for his resignation. I can never resist chocolate.

9 restrict The government has restricted freedom of movement into and out of the country. Having small children really restricts your social life.

10 subject The invaders quickly subjected the local tribes. I hate being subjected to boring lectures.

11 summon The president summoned an emergency meeting of his advisers. I have been summoned to appear in court.

12 undermine The president has accused two cabinet ministers of working secretly to undermine his position. Criticism just undermines their confidence.

13 victimise He claimed he'd been victimized by the police. Nixon felt that he was being victimized by the media.
