3 WHAT DO ECONOMIST DO? ➢ Economist study the rise and fall of the economy. ➢ Economist predict changes in the economy ➢ Evaluate Economic Issues ➢ Study the production and distribution of goods and resources

4 WHY DID I CHOOSE AN ECONOMIST? I find stocks to be interesting I enjoy learning about the rise and the fall of the economy They can work in many different fields Economics with finance, law, politics, etc.

5 How does an Economist fit my personality? Economist work is mostly office based Good understanding of IT I have an interest in economics

6 Qualifications The requirements include: economics with finance, law, management studies, law, and politics. Entry into the field can be done with any honors degree, but only after completing postgraduate economics qualification.

7 A day as an Economist Economist mainly work in an office environment A 9-5 day is typical, but the workload can be uneven so hours may be longer. Work can be stressful to complete many different projects on a deadline. Occasional absence from home or overseas might occur. Major cities all over the world London, Paris, New York, etc.

8 Salary and Benefits Salaries range from $80,000-$190,000 per year Benefits include: Option to travel around the world, retirement plans, paid vacations and holidays.

9 Pros and Cons Cons The work can be stressful due to tight deadlines Occasional absence from home Pros The job is widely available throughout major cities The work is mainly office based

10 Job Outlook & Advertisement Economists are mostly based in large cities, you wouldn’t find one anywhere near McLeansboro Number of jobs in 2014 was 21, 500 Job outlook for 2014-24 is 6% (average)

11 Getting from Highschool to College From High School I plan to go to Depaul University in Chicago or the University of Washington at Seattle I plan to get a masters then a higher level degree in Economics and a minor in business management I’m not sure what City I want to reside in

12 Businesses that offer the Job & City Most major corporations will offer this job and most bigger businesses will have someone in this career to make educated decisions in Economics. This career will require me to move to a major city most likely, but I have many options to where I might reside.

13 Obstacles and reaching my goal I think a major obstacle will be school, economics is a hard field. It requires good judgement and prediction of the stock market. Finding a job will likely to be a challenge too. I think that meeting people in this field will help me reach my chances, they can give me advice and ways that I could improve myself to become a better economist.
