Art & Other Movements Land art/Earth works: uses or interacts with the landscape in order to create artistic shapes. It usually remakes natural forms or enhances them with man-made objects. Post-Minimalism: artists were reacting against the impersonal form of Minimal art by focusing on the physical and creative parts involved. This new style used unstable materials that the artist didn’t have any control over. Feminist Art: art made by women which was related to women’s issues/perceptions. It was inspired by the women’s liberation movement and offered a lot of emotion and real-life experience. Graffiti Art: Graffiti or “Street art” became popular in the 70’s and 80’s. It’s associated with hip-hop and was used by “B-boys” (first generation of hip-hop) to create their own version of of art that wasn’t made to please the public, but to voice the frustrations of urban minorities. They mostly used stencils and spray-cans to paint on walls, subway trains etc. in urban cities. Feminist Movement: The feminist movement originally focused on equality for women in the workplace, looking for better/more jobs and higher salaries. Women then looked for gender equality in general, wanting more control in families, businesses, leadership etc. This had a huge impact on fashion because women began testing their limits and what was considered appropriate for them to wear in public, showing more skin and wearing more masculine pieces. (ex. Le Smoking jacket)
