BUDDHISM BELIEFS... Buddhism’s unique view of the world and teachings are different and can be challenging for Westerners Always remember that the ultimate goal of Buddhism is the end of human suffering

BUDDHIST BELIEFS... SAMSARA NIRVANA All Buddhist teachings show how to end samsara, the endless cycle of uncontrolled rebirths or reincarnation The end of samsara is nirvana — an everlasting state of great joy and peace

The Three Characteristics of Existence (THREE JEWELS) The Buddha came to believe that all things outside of nirvana, had three fundamental characteristics Anicca (or Impermanence) The world impermanent; it is in constant flux, and nothing stays the same for long

The Three Characteristics of Existence (THREE JEWELS) Dukkha — (or dissatisfaction) All humans and animals experience suffering There is no such thing as continuous happiness or pleasure since these things only last for a short amount of time

The Three Characteristics of Existence (THREE JEWELS) Anatta — (or no-self) There is no permanent independent self — only changing parts of our body or mind that we designate as self

The Five Precepts of Buddhism These are the rules followed by Buddhist lay people to control improper or non-beneficial, physical or verbal behavior that might cause suffering. These first five are the ethical ideals that guide the layperson and the monk or nun on how to lead a good life of compassion, love, and fulfillment. The ten cardinal precepts are designed for Nuns or Monks who practice a higher level of detachment from the material aspects of life.

The Middle Way a balanced approach to life and the regulation of one's impulses and behaviour the Middle Way should not be confused with passivity or a kind of middle-of-the-road compromise. To tread the Middle Way rather implies ongoing effort. It is about finding a balance between asceticism and indulgence – it is the avoidance of extremes It is about finding a balance between self love and self denial! A short video :)video :)
