Characterization Characterization is how the author reveals the personality of a character. The Author can do this by: Telling us directly what the character looks like Describing how the character looks and dresses Letting us hear how the character speaks Revealing the character’s private thoughts and feelings Revealing the character’s effect on other people; by showing how other characters feel or behave toward the character Showing the character in action

The Scarlet Letter Recap Hester gets out of jail with her infant child. She wears a very lavish A on her dress to forgive her adultery. The minister Dimmesdale is the father and tries to get Hester to state the fathers name, which is ironic. Pearl, Hester’s baby, has a weird connection to the Minister that seems eerie. Chapters 6-11 There are rumors the town wants to take Pearl away from Hester. Dimmesdale still keeps the secret that he is Pearls father Chillingworth becomes more ugly as his inner darkness leaks out of him

Write a descriptive essay Choose a subject you can describe in detail. It is easiest when it is a noun. Brainstorm things about the subject. How it looks, feels, tastes, etc. Start the essay off as a narrative, briefly describing why it is important or interesting. Conclude the essay with any last thoughts or past memories of the subject.
