Before reading Passive readers: 1.Begin reading Active readers: 1.Read the title 2.Evaluate the author 3.Think about what they already know about the topic 4.Decide what they need to know 5.Begin reading

During reading Passive readers: 1.Read but do not write 2.Skip unknown vocabulary words Active readers: 1.Look for key points and answers to questions as they read 2.Highlight or underline and annotate or take notes as they read 3.Find meanings of new vocabulary words

After reading Passive readers: 1.Close the book Active readers: 1.Conduct an immediate review to analyze and evaluate 2.Write a summary 3.Draw a graphic organizer
