High-tech engineering can go too far Ultra-aerodynamic javelin desing was banned 10 years ago. This new javelin was so powerful that it would overshoot the field entirely, landing in the spectators stands.

Is it fair to allow the use of hi-tech equipment in events like the Olympics? Yes : the athletes still has to train and reach a high level of mastery in his sport to get to the Olympic standard No : hard to tell whether the equipment or the athlete is excelling.

Hi-tech equipment is expensive. Does that give the wealthier Western athlete an unfair advantage over his counterpart from the third world? Yes: much of this equipment is only available in developed countries. No: a good athlete will use it and endorse it as part of his sponsorship by a leading manufacturer such as Nike, Adidas, Speedo, etc.
