5 Basic Course Agenda Unit 1 - Introduction Unit 2 - What is an Operating System Unit 3 - How to Install and OS Unit 4 - File Management in Operating Systems Unit 5 - Input and Output devices Unit 6 - Storage Devices and Communications Unit 7 - LANs and WANs Unit 8 - Sharing Disks and Files Unit 9 - OS Management and Maintenance Unit 10 - Final Project Note that there ARE no group activities in this course. All work and assignments will be completed individually. While collaboration is encouraged, each student shall turn in their own work.

6 Unit 7 - Readings Read Chapter 8 Network Connectivity In Chapter 8, you will read about –Topologies (Bus, Star, Ring, etc.) –HW (NIC, MAC address, hubs, switches, briges, routers) –Protocols (TCP/IP, Appletalk, IPX/SPX, Net BEUI –Utilities (DSN, email,printer sharing, databases) –Data (packets, frames, cells) –Client/Server –Security – Authentication, Encryption
