Data collection strategies Existing guidelines –Overview of possible methodologies –Deliberately not very detailed –Examples of exercises that have already been undertaken (1 for each methodology)

Data collection strategies What is the purpose of the data collection? –Different depending on the agencies, situation What is profiling? –In some cases: demographic data –Other cases: demographic data known, gaps unknown Generic methodology, tailored to the situation

Data collection strategies Elements influencing the choice of methodology: –Purpose, required data: WHAT? –Time required/available: HOW LONG? –Location of IDPs: CONDITIONS? –Required precision The importance of each can be different according to the context.

Other thoughts Problems with definitions: IDPs, camps, (IDP) household, etc Need for data on current situation and/or data on situation before displacement Periodicity: –How often should data be collected? –When should baselines be updated?
