1. “E XCELLENCE WITH O PPORTUNITIES ” Genesis 41: 1-32

2. 1. The Value of Waiting “The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.” (Gen. 40:23) “When two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream;” (Gen. 41:1)

3. Joseph waited for two (2) years in the prison. Delay in our lives, develops CHARACTER. Delays in life, train us to TRUST GOD. » Apart from God, we cannot do anything! Delays in life, cause us to DEVELOP DEPENDENCY. » When in trouble, go to God first! » Dependence on God develops power! This all adds up to a virtue that few of us are anxious to develop – PATIENCE.

4. T WO (2) DREAMS, SAME MEANING … BUT DIFFERENT RESULT ! --- G EN.41: 2-8 “..when out of the river there came up seven cows, sleek and fat, and they grazed among the reeds. After them, seven other cows, ugly and gaunt, came up out of the Nile and stood beside those on the riverbank. And the cows that were ugly and gaunt ate up the seven sleek, fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.”

5. T WO (2) DREAMS, SAME MEANING … BUT DIFFERENT RESULT ! --- G EN.41: 2-8 “..He fell asleep again and had a second dream: Seven heads of grain, healthy and good, were growing on a single stalk. After them, seven other heads of grain sprouted – thin and scorched by the east wind. The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy, full heads. Then Pharaoh woke up; it had been a dream.”

6. O PPORTUNITY K NOCKS FOR J OSEPH ! --- G EN. 41: 33-40 “And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt.” (v. 33) Joseph has PREPARED himself for this opportunity! Joseph’s ideas broke what was considered NORMAL! … and gave the QUALIFICATIONS!

7. O PPORTUNITY K NOCKS FOR J OSEPH ! --- G EN. 41: 33-40 “Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for food. This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine.” (vv. 34-36)

O PPORTUNITY K NOCKS FOR J OSEPH ! --- G EN. 41: 33-40 Pharaoh’s response: “So Pharaoh asked them: ‘Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God ?’ Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.” (vv. 41: 38-39)

9. E XCELLENCE OR EXCUSES -- 1. Excellence was proven in Joseph’s state of PREPAREDNESS! He was ready to HEAR from God! He was ready to SPEAK for God! He was able to RECOGNIZE opportunity!

10. D IFFERENCE BETWEEN : O PPORTUNITY & JUST ANOTHER C IRCUMSTANCE IN LIFE.. Three “Lights”: 1. What is God SAYING to me? 2. What does the BIBLE say? 3. What do Circumstances and Situations tell me? All three “lights” should line up in three facts!
