Public Service Announcements  Choose your topic. Pick a subject that is important to you, as well as one you can visualize. Keep your focus narrow and to the point. More than one idea confuses your audience, so have one main idea per PSA.  Time for some research - you need to know your stuff! Try to get the most current and up to date facts on your topic. Statistics and references can add to a PSA. You want to be convincing and accurate.  Consider your audience. Are you targeting parents, teens, teachers or some other social group? Consider your target audience's needs, preferences, as well as the things that might turn them off. They are the ones you want to rally to action. The action suggested by the PSA can be almost anything. It can be spelled out or implied in your PSA, just make sure that message is clear.  Grab your audience's attention. You might use visual effects, an emotional response, humor, or surprise to catch your target audience. Be careful, however, of using scare tactics. Attention getters are needed, but they must be carefully selected. The language typically used in successful announcements, commercial or non-profit, uses emotion to help incite a positive reaction from the listener. Emotion is typically based on a need or desire on the part of the listener. For example, a listener may hear a commercial for a television program or movie and want to watch it based on a desire to experience laughter or dramatic tension. The same applies to public service announcements, invoking an emotional response from the listener in order to make them act on that emotion. For example, a public service announcement may want the listener to donate money to help feed children in poor countries, so including lines such as “just one dollar a day can help feed a hungry child” or “one dollar, less than the price of a cup of coffee, can help a starving child survive” will incite the listener to action because of their emotional response.  Create a script and keep your script to a few simple statements. Highlight the major and minor points that you want to make. Be sure the information presented in the PSA is based on up-to-date, accurate research, findings and/or data.  Film your footage and edit your PSA.

Paragraph Editing  What elements should be in a well-written paragraph?

Things to keep in mind:  From Unit 4: jouer à, jouer de, faire de  Verbs for sports: e.g. courir = to run, nager = to swim  Linking/transitional words for beginning, middle, end  Sentence structure: Verb tenses  You must use the present and past tenses  Review your notes on the passé composé

Video Script Writing:  Now that you have the second draft of your paragraph complete, you are going to start writing the script for your video.  You will be handing in the work you do to the Hand-in folder at the end of every class.  Start from the very beginning of your video and write out the parts that each person will be saying.  In FRENCH

Use: To give instructions, directions, commands, suggestions A command to one person goes in the “Tu” form A command to a group of people goes in the “Vous” form As command to a group that includes yourself goes in the “Nous” form

Structure: They’re called “forms” because you don’t use the subject pronouns “Tu, Vous or Nous.” Use the “Vous” form to give general instructions e.g. Participez aux sports. C’est bonne pour la santé. If all of you are going to do something, use the “Nous” form, which’s means “Let’s do something.” e.g. Jouons ensemble!
