Chemistry Vocabulary January 31, 2011 Atom – the smallest form of matter. Contains protons, neutrons, and electrons. Element- matter in it’s purest form. All chemicals are made of elements. Molecules are made of elements.

Chemistry Vocabulary Feb. 1, 2011 Periodic Table- A chart/ table created by Dmitri Mendeleev to organize the elements according to their properties. Groups/ Families of the Periodic Table (IA-VIIIA ) are elements that share similar properties Rows/ Periods (1-7) on the Periodic Table- Elements that are within a electron cloud

Chemistry Vocabulary Feb 2, 2011 Matter- all abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living) things are made of substances called matter and are either a solid, liquid, gas, or plasma. Conservation of Mass- The scientific law that states that:” Matter can not be created nor destroyed it only changes form.”

Chemistry Vocabulary Feb 3, 2011 Properties: The unique individual characteristics of each element or compound. (boiling point, freezing point, etc.) Malleability- a physical property of an element. The ability of matter to bend or shape into forms.

Chemistry Vocabulary Jan 4, 2011 Conductibility- A physical characteristic of matter. Metals that allow electricity to flow through easily. ( Insulators – keep electricity from flowing through) Ductility- A physical characteristic of matter that is the ability of matter to be pulled into a wire.
