Romans 6:15-23 SHALL WE CONTINUE IN SIN?
2
RECOGNIZE YOU ARE DEAD TO SIN Romans 6:11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
3
DEAL WITH REALITY Reckon : “logizomai” – take an inventory, estimate, conclude. 41 times in the NT – think 9, impute 8, reckon 6, count 5, account 4, suppose 2 The word refers to facts not supposition. Deals with reality.
4
DO NOT LET SIN REIGN 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin,
5
UNDER GRACE NOT LAW …but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
6
NOT UNDER LAW 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!
7
GRACE ABOUNDS 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not!
8
SLAVES TO ONE OR THE OTHER 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey…
9
SIN TO DEATH; OBEDIENCE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS …whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
10
SIN PROCESS TO DEATH James 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
11
HEART RESPONSE TO GOSPEL Romans 6:17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
12
HEART: CENTER OF OUR BEING kardía – heart; "the affective center of our being" and the capacity of moral preference (volitional desire, choice;
13
HEARING ONLY Luke 8:11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
14
NO ROOT 13 But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.
15
NO FRUIT Luke 8:14 Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
16
BEARING FRUIT 15 But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
17
FREE BUT SLAVES Romans 6:18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh…
18
PATTERN OF ESCALATION …For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawless ness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.
19
THE FRUIT OF SIN 20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
20
THE FRUIT OF SIN
21
FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS 22 But now having been set free from sin…

FREEDOM FROM SIN UNTO ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
29
