www.idrc.ca/rpe Rationale for the CCAA programme Climate change expected to hit developing countries, & African countries in particular, the hardest Adaptive capacity limited by social, economic, institutional, environmental, technical constraints Proposed 5-year, $65-million CAD programme to support African countries in their efforts to reduce vulnerability of the poor to climate change

www.idrc.ca/rpe Partnering with the CCAA CCAA will fund African-led initiatives and promote collaboration Partnerships with developed countries researchers/ institutions that clearly strengthen an African-led initiative can be supported Northern researchers may further contribute as: Project advisors, resource persons Members CCAA Technical Experts Network

www.idrc.ca/rpe CCAA purpose & objectives Significantly improve the pro-poor adaptive capacity of African societies through 4 objectives: 1.Better & shared understanding of data generated by scientists & research institutes 2.Strengthening capacity of African scientists, institutes, organizations, & civil society 3.Supporting adaptation by urban & rural people by supporting action research 4.Informing the policy process with good quality science- based work
