Other considerations a.Use figures that correspond with the concept or the text in the slide, do not use them to fill space. b.Use self-explanatory figures or graphs or a least put captions on them. Type the text; do not cut/copy text as figure. Always use a good high resolution. c.Explain the concepts (graphically) that are going to be used in the presentation d. Summarize your ideas and show them as key words or phrases using bullets. Do not copy/paste sentences from the published paper
12
More… e.Do not use presentations done by others or from previous classes. f.Do not choose one paper and copy exactly what it says; also do a review of your project, looking up for information in other papers/books g.Make sure that features in the figures are of the similar size as the text you type. Material that is unreadable (too small or fuzzy) from figures or tables should be retyped with larger fonts. Use high quality figures and text everywhere.
13
More… h.Summarize the work going on in your selected topic (motivation, relevance, preliminary work, actual work you want to explain, alternatives, and further research) i.You should cite the journal-papers/web-page/etc., which is the source of any figure/table/material you use in your presentation. The citation should be in the same slide in which it is used; do not include these citations at the end of the presentation. The citation of a paper or a figure on a paper should be done in the following way: Examples of citations to be used in the slides, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 16448. Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 5-7, 199, or Wang, D. L.; Li, K.; Teo, W. K. J. Membr. Sci. 1995, 105, 89. www.magic.STM.org Only for these citations, you can use a very small font (~9pt)
14
More… For ALL assignments, choose your papers from recent issues in Science or Nature or other leading journal (ACS Nano, NanoLetters, JACS, J. Phys. Chem.), published after May 2011.
15
More… Discussion (for the Audience): Listen and take notes on a prepared sheet (to be distributed) with your review about the presentation. Do this individually, attendance is required, and there are no make-ups.
