2 7 P’s of Job Selection and Satisfaction People (work culture) Place (local culture and location) Position (is it interesting?) Pay (the whole picture) Promotion (advancement opportunities) Purpose (add value) Passion (motivation)

3 STEP 1: Receiving the offer Be gracious and enthusiastic and thank them for the offer Do not commit until you receive an offer in writing, either email or hard copy Do not rush into a decision! Ask for a timeline on when they need an answer Research first! Make sure you know who to call back for more information

4 STEP 2: Evaluating the offer Do the research thoroughly and put the 7 P’s to use! How much do you need to make? Determine the minimum to make the offer acceptable Discretionary (or disposable) income - amount left for spending, investing or saving after taxes and personal necessities (such as food, shelter, and clothing) - from Investopedia.com

Opportunities for advancement Over-all career goals Trade offs ( eg. better health insurance but lower pay) Purpose and Passion Are you a right fit for the company? Personal vs Company values

9 STEPS 3 & 4: The negotiation & company response Be honest and gracious Listen carefully to the information given to you Justify your requests Be prompt in responding (1-2 days) Close the conversation with courtesy

10 STEP 5: Your Decision If you accept, Congratulations! – you now have a job Now, Withdrawal from other applicant pools Honor your commitment Verbal commitment Declining an offer is fine – just do it professionally
