Nowadays, most Chinese recognize Confucius as the great thinker and educator in Chinese civilization. I have always been a question of “ Why is he so recognized?”. Confucius was the conscious inheritor of the culture of the Xia. Zhu Xi, the most famous Song Dynasty Confucian master, once said “ Without Zhongni, all of history would have been endless night”. I think that he want to say that without Confucius Chinese culture would be like water without a source.

Confucius 'teachings was how to become a good and virtuous person by improving his own character. Confucius' main methods for achieving these virtues was learning. However, learning is not enough to fulfil the need. People must be able to think.

An important objective of the philosophy of Confucius was to help people to become good. Correctness, ritual and a way of being a gentleman is only the first step of Confucius theory. "Self-improvement, family unions, controlled by the state, and gaining world". These are levels of a superior man must go through. "In order to become an outstanding person, self-improvement is a fundamental part of the success of" Confucius thought.
