2 Biography  Born in June 6, 1932 in Santa Cruz, Manila  1932-2011  Father: Mariano Aguilar (Lawyer) Mother: Encarnacion Alcuaz (Musician)  was the sixth of eleven children  painter/visual artist known for his abstract work  one of the most awarded Filipino artists  In 1956 he chose Barcelona as his career base  1959 he met Ute Schmitz, (German)  1962 they got married  3 sons: Christian, Andreas and Matthias.  His talent was recognized not only in Spain and the Philippines but in ParisPhilippines  He has exhibited in Spain, the Philippines, Portugal, Poland, the United States and Germany.

3 His Education  Dr. Albert Elementary School (primary)  San Beda High School (secondary)  Associate of Arts degree at San Beda College in the evenings  Fine Arts degree at the University of the Philippines (UP) in the mornings  Fernando Amorsolo (painting)  Guillermo Tolentino (sculpture)  Toribio Herrera, Ireneo Miranda and Constancio Bernardo.  law at the Ateneo de Manila University  graduated with a Diploma in Law in 1955  1955 Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando,Madrid.  Scholarship w/ the help of the Jesuits at Ataneo

4 Awards  1954 second place at the UP Art Competition  winning first prize at the Premio Moncada in 1957 (spain)  1958 Prix Francisco Goya in Bracelona  first prize at the Pintura Sant Pol del Mar in 1961  second prize at the Premio Vancell at the Fourth Biennial of Tarrasa in Barcelona in 1964.  Diploma of Honor at the International Exhibition of Art Libre in 1961, the decoration of Arts, Letters and Sciences award from the French government 1964 and the Order of French Genius in 1964  2007, he was acknowledged by the Philippine government with the Presidential Medal of Merit award for his outstanding accomplishments in visual arts.  1st prize at the 1953 UP Art Competition  1st prize at the 1954 Annual Shell Art Competition  2nd place at the 1954 UP Art Competition  1st prize at the Premio Moncada (Spain, 1957)  1st prize at the 1958 Prix Francisco Goya in Bracelona  1st prize at the Pintura Sant Pol del Mar (1961)  2nd prize at the Premio Vancell at the Fourth Biennial of Tarrasa in Barcelona (1964)  Diploma of Honor at the International Exhibition of Art Libre (Paris, 1961)  Arts, Letters and Sciences award from the French government (1964)  Order of French Genius (1964)  Presidential Medal of Merit award from the Philippine governement for his outstanding accomplishments in visual arts (2007)  National Artist of the Philippines for Visual Arts (2009)
