Memory Strategies for Aiding Study Habits

Remembering is the active process of recalling something that you have already learned or experienced. Memory is our capacity to store, retain and retrieve information. There are three memory systems: Sensory memory, short-term memory and long term memory. What is “Memory,” Anyway? Adapted from Learning Skills for College and Career by Paul Hettich

Sensory Memory- Information received by our senses only remains momentarily-seconds to milliseconds! Short term Memory- Information transferred here lasts for about 30 seconds unless rehearsed. Long Term Memory- Vast amounts of memory may be stored here for periods lasting from just a few minutes to a lifetime.
