Teacher explanation Constructing Series Circuits This is a series circuit. Each of the components comes one after the other and forms a large circle. We draw a series circuit like this. We draw circuits like this because they are easy to understand and simple to draw. Learning activity Draw the series circuit in your book, then using the equipment provided build a series circuit.
7
Learning Activity 1 Learning Activity 2 Learning Activity 3 Construct and draw a series circuit with one battery and three bulbs. Construct and draw a series circuit containing one cell, one switch, and one bulb. Construct and draw a series circuit containing one cell, one bulb, and one resistor.

Teacher explanation Constructing Parallel Circuits This a is a parallel circuit. Each of the components branch off of the wire leading to the battery. Making them line up parallel to one another. The diagram to the right shows you how to draw a parallel circuit. Learning activity Draw the series circuit in your book, then using the equipment provided build a series circuit.

Key Word Alert Conductor A material that allows an electrical current to pass through it easily. What do you think an “Insulator” may be? Insulator- A material which doesn’t allow an electrical current to pass through it easily.

Thinking Activity I have three materials-: a piece of wood, an iron nail, and a paper clip. Using any of the equipment stated below how could we test to see which of these materials are conductors. Bulb Fuse Wire Battery Crocodile clip Switch MaterialConductivity predictionConductor/insulator Wood Iron nail Paper clip Equipment Options

Learning Activity Discovering Conductors! MaterialConductivity predictionConductor/insulator Wood Iron nail Paper clip Carry out the Conduction investigation and find out which of the materials above are able to conduct electricity. Ensure that you make a predication about each material before you do the test.

Plenary Below is the outline of a torch. Your task is to draw this outline into your book then attempt to draw the components and circuit inside. Think about what we have learnt today and how scientist draw circuits. Success Criteria Lv3: Components correctly identified Lv4: Basic diagram of the circuit inside of a torch. Lv5: Detailed correct drawing of circuit inside of a torch.
