Social Studies Text Book Adoption Social Studies text books are due for replacement Working with Kellen Conroy at ESU #1 for the review process Review committee includes Greg Conroy, Josh Warren, Brianna Carda, Rae Brown, Dayleen Liakos, Amy Bargholz, Sheila Dahlman, Eric Miller, Kelly Ballinger Using an evaluation instrument designed by ESU #1 which includes evaluation of content, teacher support, student support, assessment, supplemental resources, technology usage Committee has decided on materials from McGraw Hill Members met with the curriculum committee prior to the meeting Have provided a proposal for purchase this evening

6. 2015-2016 4-5-6 Departmentalization Megan Nixon (Writing 4-5-6) Dayleen Liakos (Social Studies 4-5-6) Luke Hoffman (Math 4-5-6) Tara English (Science 4-6) Kari Athey (Science 5) Each teacher will teach their own guided reading/treasures reading.

7. Summer School Kira Swinton, Tab Albus, Kim Hoffmeister, Tiffany Beckman and Richelle Wendte are conducting summer school. We have one credit recovery student. 9 students are eligible/participating for ESY special education services (including 4 preschool students). Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00p.m. June 8-11, 15-18, 22-25 July 6-9, 13-16, 27-30

8. Jump Start School August 3-6 and 10-13 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. 21 students recommended by elementary teachers Invitations to Jump Start went out last week Transportation will be provided as needed Purpose is to “jump start” their learning and prepare them for the beginning of the school year. Staffing will be determined by number of students who plan to attend

9. Elementary School Day Elementary school day will remain to an 8:15 a.m. start time. Breakfast begins 7:30 a.m. Playground supervised at 7:45 a.m. Students not eating should arrive at 8:00 a.m. Students will be dismissed to classrooms between 8:05-8:10 a.m. Students will be tardy if arriving after 8:15 a.m. Elementary school day ends at 3:30 p.m.

10. End of the School Day Procedures 3:25 p.m.Dismissal Warning Announcement 3:30 p.m.Students will line up/dismiss from classrooms.*Students walking home will be dismissed through lunchroom door to the playground where they will be lined up by the west playground gate. Students will be escorted across the alley and will walk west to the corner where they will be allowed to disseminate. *Students riding the bus will be dismissed through the preschool door to the east side of the playground, where they will be supervised until the busses arrive. *Students being picked up by parents or guardians will dismissed through the lunchroom door to the playground where they will be lined up by the southwest gate. When parents have entered the new “pick-up zone” students will allowed exit the playground. 3:45 p.m.Bus students loaded, checked off, dismissed

12. Play Before Eat “Recess Before Lunch,” also known as “Play Before Eat,” is a practice that aims to improve students’ health and behavior by having children play first and eat lunch afterward. Schools that schedule recess before lunch report that students eat more fruits and vegetables, drink more milk, waste less food, and are better behaved on the playground, in the lunchroom, and in the classroom, according to an article in the Journal of Child Nutrition and Management. Some schools also note a decrease in visits to the school nurse and more instruction time as benefits of the schedule switch. Both Leslie Timm and Pam Buchholz have received information on this movement in their respective professional meetings. Plan to give this practice a try this fall. Time out of class is the same, however I am hopeful this will result in more time at recess and less idle sit time in the lunchroom.
