MISSION & PURPOSE The Dubuque Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has facilitated the creation of a Sports Commission that will be responsible for working to attract amateur athletic events to the Dubuque area. The Commission will have a 7 member Executive Board and a committee of over 20 volunteers and staff to lead the sports marketing effort in Dubuque County.

Through the Dubuque Convention & Visitors Bureau: Create a campaign with a consistent message, look and corresponding coop campaign. Provide technical assistance. Provide marketing assistance. Provide seed $ to these events. DESTINATION FESTIVALS: CONCEPT

CVB staff would work with, counsel, and develop each of these events individual identities as part of a bigger message of Dubuque as a Festival Destination. The message and look for these events would be taken to a broader audience outside the Dubuque area to draw more visitor dollars to the area. Awareness of the many great festivals in Dubuque would be raised significantly. Attendance at festivals would increase and area restaurants and lodging would also benefit. Festivals would be part of the destination message rather than something to do as an afterthought. Consistency of message would help all festivals and events to increase awareness and attendance. Significant increase in spending and economic impact. Tracking of impact would take place in cooperation with each event in the pilot project through visitor surveys and ticket sales. 1.Two key components: Sports Destination Festival & Events 1.Investment of $80,000 leverages an economic impact of over $23 million. 2.Request for Assistance: The Dubuque CVB is requesting additional funding above the 50% of the Hotel/Motel tax to fund this Pilot Program in the amount of $80,000.
