U.S. helps Allied Powers defeat Germans. On November 11, 1918 at 11:00 Germany agreed to an armistice- end to fighting (11 th day, 11 th hour, 11 th month)

In January 1918, President Wilson gave his Fourteen Points speech which called for peace. Called for an end to secret treaties, freedom of the seas, free trade, changes in national boundaries. Called for a group to settle disputes peacefully, led to the establishment of the League of Nations.

Read Wilson’s Fourteen Points 1-5, and 14, answer the following questions: Why did Wilson believe that an organization such as the League of Nations would benefit the world? Why should diplomacy avoid private dealings and proceed in public view? How might equality of trade be important to keeping the peace?
