ELA Homework Prompts You will have two nights to complete each prompt. Prompts assigned on Monday are due Wednesday. Prompts assigned on Wednesday are due Friday. Each response needs to be in paragraph form and ¾ of a page long. You must go past the middle hole, but no more than one page. Do not skip lines. At the top of each page, write the prompt number. You will choose one for me to grade. It will be an assessment grade. I will choose one to grade. It will be an assessment grade.

Prompt #1 Woodrow Wilson reportedly said, “Friendship is the only cement that will hold the world together.” Do you agree? Write your response, telling about a time that friendship pulled you through a tough situation.

Prompt #2 Write about the characteristics of a good friend vs. a bad friend. What would be the ideal characteristics of a good friend, specifically, how would (s)he act, defend you, lead, follow, etc.? What warning signs might one look out for in a bad friend with respect to these characteristics?

Prompt #3 Write about what types of information you can learn about a person by the way (s)he speaks.

Prompt #4 There is a popular saying: “opposites attract.” Write about whether you agree or disagree. Give examples from your life experience, books you’ve read, and/or TV shows/movies you’ve seen.

People often say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” What does this saying mean? Write about a time when you were judged or when you judged someone based on their outward appearance. How did your first impression of this person change after you got to know him/her? If you were the one who was misjudged, how did it make you feel? What did you do to try to change their feelings about you? Prompt #5

Write three adjectives that describe a “clique,” then three adjectives that describe a “gang.” What do the two groups have in common? How are they different?
