Tuesday, 8/25 EQ: How can I analyze text to be successful in college level classes Pick up a sheet of CN paper from the ‘AVID 3” blue bin. Write the first EQ (essential question) from the side board on your CN paper. Upcoming dates… Friday, 8/28 – bring expandable file to class Friday, 8/28 – student information sheet due Friday, 8/28 – AVID contract due Friday 8/28 – checks

Curve of forgetting analysis Analyze the ‘curve of forgetting’ graphs Make three observations on the back of the graph sheet

Team building activity Using the words on the cups, build a pyramid out of the cups so that four cups make the base, three cups the next level, two cups the next level, and one cup at the top. Tie the pieces of string to the rubber band. Space the strings evenly. The final product should look like a sun with the number of “sunrays” (strings) equal to the number of people in your group. No talking during the activity. You may only touch your string. You may not touch the rubber band, the cups, other group member’s string, etc. Each person must command a string. All strings are manned at all times.

CN Practice Take three minutes to scan the transcript (do not mark the text) Read the text and do the following: Underline facts about the author Highlight any author claims Place a question mark next to text you would like to have more information about. Write one sentence that summarizes each section of the transcript.

Watch ‘Danger of the Single Story While watching the video jot down any thoughts that you want to add to the transcript.

Transfer your story/video notes to CN format. Write your notes on the right hand side If you need more paper it’s on the desk near the computer cart. When done turn in your notes to the the black tray (front of the room)

Expandable file folder Need by Friday, 8/28 Will be used to store all your college application artifacts/information.
