Who was Henry VIII? Henry VIII was Born 28 June 1491 at Greenwich palace His Father was King Henry VII and his mother was Elizabeth of York He was King from and died on the 28th January 1547 He was King for 36 years

Henrys Childhood Henry had a very spoilt childhood.
He was so spoilt that he even had his own ‘whipping boy’ who was punished every time Henry did something wrong! After his elder brother died, Henry became next in line to be King. His father died in 1509 and the young Prince became King just before his 18th birthday. Henry was very handsome. He was a very good athlete and loved jousting and hunting. He was very clever also; he was good at Latin, maths, and music.

Henrys Children Henry actually had many children. Unfortunately as was very common in Tudor times, most of them died when they were babies. Only three survived to be adults. He actually had 11 children from three of his wives. Catherine of Aragon must have been a very strong woman as she had six babies in eight years.

All about Henry's children
Mary I (1516 – 1558 Mary Tudor was born in 1516 and was Queen from Mary was the only child of Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon to survive childhood. Mary was a Catholic and as queen, she attempted to return England to the Catholic faith. Mary earned the nickname, ‘Bloody Mary’ because she was responsible for executing thousands of people during her reign! Did you know..? Mary married Phillip II of Spain in 1554 and they took their honeymoon at Hampton Court Palace.

Elizabeth I (1533 – 1603) Elizabeth was born in 1533 and was queen for 45 years until her death in Like her half-sister Mary I, Elizabeth was born at Greenwich Palace in London. She was the only daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth was only 2 and a half years old when her mother was executed. -Elizabeth was famous for being the 'virgin queen' as she never married, Elizabeth set England back on the Protestant path after Mary I's attempt to return the country to Catholicism. Did you know..? Elizabeth was imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1554 by Mary I.

- Edward was born in 1537 and was King from He was only 9 years old when he became king. - Edward VI was the eagerly awaited son of Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour. - In 1553, Edward fell seriously ill and died shortly afterwards. Did Henry VIII have any other children?
- Henry is believed to have fathered at least one illegitimate child whose name was Henry Fitzroy. He was the only illegitimate son that Henry VIII recognised and he died at the age of 16 in 1536.

Tudor Times . Pomanders – in Tudor times people did not get washed very often so it was rather “stinky”. They made pomanders out of oranges and cloves to hide the stinky smell!! .
