Modern Apprenticeships – Ways of Entry Pre-trade course 6mths or 1 year then to an apprenticeship using contacts made via Polytechnic/course provider. Weltec has Modern Apprenticeship co-ordinator. Directly into an Apprenticeship with a company. Work as a ‘labourer’ or contractor until get App. Via an Industry Training Organisation

Other employment and routes Short course at Polytechnic, eg 6 mths then out to employment market, directly or via Recruitment firm. Examples: Chef, Call Centre, Receptionist Skills course, Certificate in Computing, Hairdressing, Certificate in Beauty Services, Certificate in Care of the Elderly

Entry Criteria Certificate level (2/3/4) : Level 1 NCEA New ‘Technician’ qualification 1- 2 year Diploma at Polytechnic Direct Entry to Diploma with NCEA Level 2, credits in Maths, and a Science Can staircase into Diploma (Level 5/6) from Certificate (Level 4)
