2. Rationale & Background Prior to 2005-2006, students were required to take 6 courses. This was changed in that year due to a dearth of elective offerings 2008 Staff reductions eliminated Technology/Engineering, Food Skills, and certain Foreign Language classes. In 2010/2011 school year, Scheduling Committee formed to assess our school schedule to maximize instruction In 2012/2103 the School Improvement Plan again raised the work of the Scheduling Committee stating, “the staff should explore other school schedule options in an effort to maximize staff and respond to the ongoing complications that the present departmental scheduling needs have on the scheduling process.” In 2005-2006 581 students were NOT enrolled in six (6) classes. 4. 2014-2015 After requests to continue new schedule conversation, survey constructed and provided to faculty in fall of 2014 Feedback from survey utilized to adjust proposal - maintaining science labs in certain subjects Schedule discussions brought to School Council in November for feedback- council positive on proposed schedule Hingham Teachers visit to discuss implications of teaching under the proposed schedule Mock schedule created using new parameters that demonstrated the assumed benefits of the schedule change Meetings by department revealed consensus to move to new schedule Decision to pursue schedule change for 2016-2017 reached November 16, 2015BRAINTREE PUBLIC SCHOOLS 4
