6 WHAT IS COMPETENCY-BASED EDUCATION (CBE)? CBE is an educational model that is: oriented to outcomes tracks learners progress and performance based on the needs of the learner, more accountability and flexibility focused on achieving skills and performance (vs. time spent in training)

10 MILESTONES Milestones are descriptions of the abilities expected of a trainee or physician at a defined stage of professional development. PURPOSE Marking the progression of competence Defined targets to guide learning and assessment Can be used to develop benchmarks for progress or promotion
