2 Background: Childhood and Education Born in London, England on January 12, 1958. Iranian-British Attended school at a Roman Catholic all-girls school in England Studied Journalism because her sister back out of attending school. While she was going to school her family was kicked out of Iran. Her family lost everything. She later credited this experience as her inspiration for becoming a journalist.

3 Background: Education and Early Career Christiane graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. 1983- entry-level assistant to the international assignment desk at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta. Later, became a reporter for CNN at their New York bureau. Accepted the job became the networks leading international correspondent at the New York Bureau.

4 Career: Past and Present Worked for CNN, ABC News and 60 minutes. CNN: Works at the London Bureau as an International Correspondent. Amanpour primetime show 20 years ABC: Hosted ABCs This Week newsprogram in 2010-2011. 60 Minutes Contributed from 1996-2005.

5 Career: Exclusive Interviews and Reporting 1996- Reported from hotspots in the Gulf and the Balkans 2003-Documented Iraq’s warfare history 2004- Reported from the courtroom of the trail of Saddam Hussein, where the former dictator was sentenced to death 2005- Hurricane Katrina 2009- launched the primetime show “Amanpour ”. 2010- Earthquake in Haiti 2011-Japanese Tsunami During 9/11 attacks, Amanpour was the first international correspondent to interview British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf, and Afghan President Hamid Karzi. Was the last journalist to interview Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak before he was deposed. January 2014- Released photos and a testimony to show the torture of prisoners by the Syrian government. Hosted ABC’s This Week news program 2010-2011

6 Career: Accomplishments and Awards Recognized as one of the journalists most world leaders follow on Twitter. Honorary citizen of Sarajevo Named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Documentaries: Where Have All the Parents Gone? (2006) focused on Kenyan children who had been orphaned because of AIDS. In Footsteps of bin Laden (2006) The War Within (2007) a report on Islamic unrest in the UK 11 News and Documentary Emmy Awards. Four Peabody Awards Two George Polk Awards The Courage in Journalism Award Nine Honorary Degrees Inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame
