4 REGULATIONS REGULATIONS n CAPR 60-4 –Part 1 & 2 - ES ICS Mission Forms n Mission Scanners and Observers must have a good working knowledge of all applicable ICS mission forms. n MS/MO should have personal copies of ALL applicable 60 series regulations and supplements. n MO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MISSION LOG U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY

5 FORM 91AC CHECK RIDE FORM 91AC CHECK RIDE n Applicant must conduct prior preparation –Have ALL tasks on MS or MO 101T card completed and signed off. –BE FAMILIAR WITH CAPR 60-1, 60-3, 60-4 (Parts 1 & 2), ANY APPLICABLE SUPPLEMENTS AND FARs. –Obtain FLWG Form 91AC and fill in the ID block. n Check Observer will: –Ensure compliance with uniform, 101 and id card. –Review 101T to verify completion of training requirements –Verify candidates possession of: n Gridded Sectional. n DeLorme Street Map Book. n Note Pad / Kneeboard. n Operational Checklist (highly recommended). n Applicable Mission Forms n E6B or Electronic Equivalent. 6 FORM 91AC CHECK RIDE FORM 91AC CHECK RIDE n Check Observer must brief the Mission Pilot in advance on the conduct of the check ride and what is expected. n Form 91AC Mission Aircrew Check Ride Procedures n Oral Review –Mission Base administrative procedures. –Mission flight planning, including preparation of CAPF 104. –Search patterns and procedures. –Air-to-ground/ground-to-air signals (Use of cheat sheet OK). –Use of the standardized chart grid system. –Debriefing procedures. 7 FORM 91AC CHECK RIDE FORM 91AC CHECK RIDE n In-Flight Portion –A practice ELT MUST be used for electronic search portion. –Emergency procedures will be conducted verbally. –Maneuvers will be conducted at 1,500 AGL or above. n Post Flight: Review and Documentation –Review performance and discuss any comments. –Complete the CAPF 91AC. –Return completed paperwork and forward one copy to the Wing CCO. n This is an evaluation, NOT an instructional session. n Limited instruction may be provided for minor items. n Unsatisfactory check rides must be reported to the Wing CCO ASAP. 8 MS/MO Training Problem Areas MS/MO Training Problem Areas n Scanner/Observer –Training didn’t follow NHQ Aircrew Training Curriculum. –Areas of training on 101T card signed off without proper demonstration of knowledge (pencil whipped). –Advanced training items actually done on the ground instead of in flight as required. –MO/MS candidate rushed through training. n Quantity instead of Quality –Some Instructors/Evaluators are themselves deficient in basics skills. 9 RESULTS RESULTS n Scanner/Observer –Lack of knowledge of proper radio usage and procedures. –Inability to use the GPS. –Unable to properly use the DF equipment. –Unable to navigate using electronic and/or non-electronic methods. –Inability to read a Sectional Map. –Lack of knowledge of Lat/Long. –EMBARRASSING SITUATIONS DURING HIGH- PROFILE MISSIONS IN SUPPORT OF OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES!! U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY

10 SOLUTION SOLUTION – TRAINING AND PROFICIENCY !! –INSURE PROPER AND THROUGH TRAINING –KNOW AND FOLLOW THE REGS –PRACTICE FLIGHT DUTIES ON A REGULAR BASIS WITH A MISSION PILOT (CAPR 60-1, attachment 9) –RECURRENT FLIGHT TRAINING WITH A CHECK OBSERVER –AS WITH PILOTS, OBSERVER SKILLS ARE PERISHABLE U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY
