Writing a Paragraph about Your Independent Reading You can do this!

You will be writing a paragraph about your choice of book. You won’t know the question before class that day Questions will be kind of “generic” – the kind of question anyone should be able to answer about a book she just read. You will only have 10 minutes to write your paragraph. In Addition to Your PowerPoint….

Let’s think about how a good paragraph is set up …. It starts with a general sentence that introduces the topic. This first sentence is called a Topic Sentence. It then offers lots of good support in complete sentences. The sentences should come in an order that makes sense. It wraps up with a final sentence that basically reviews the main idea of the paragraph. This last sentence is a Concluding Sentence. What are the parts of a paragraph?

Usually 8 – 10 sentences will do nicely. Be sure you give SPECIFIC, DETAILED, and ACCURATE info about the book. You are trying to prove to me that you read the book carefully and remember it well. So how long will my paragraph need to be?

Tell who your favorite character is and why Tell who your least favorite character is and why Tell if this book would make a good class novel and why or why not Tell a theme from this novel and how it is shown in the story Tell the main conflict of the novel and how it is resolved in the book Tell which character from the book you are most alike. Tell the setting of the book and how it affects the plot. Possible questions ….
