Assignment By Jack Sargeant
2
Introduction The purpose of the assignment, is for acting as an introduction to graphical software, the tools within them and how these can be applied to create graphical images. This ranges from free hand landscape drawings, within Microsoft Paint, to creating a logo in Macromedia Fireworks for an organisation, using various vector tools and overlaid shapes, for example. The twelve tasks within the assignment will therefore act as a basis for the rest of the coursework, giving us the necessary skills to do this.
3
Task 1 Step 1 Step 2 For the first step, Microsoft Paint was opened to create the free hand drawing. Then I had to create the dimensions for the canvas. This was done through selecting Image, then selecting attributes. This bought up a window, which displayed both height and width, which could then be changed to how I wanted it, through typing in the correct number. The canvas could also be adjusted by dragging the corners inwards and outwards. The second step was to fill in the background of the canvas, with a single block of colour. This was done through selecting the paint bucket tool on the left hand side, then choosing your colour at the bottom of the screen. After this all that was needed was too click on the blank canvas, which created the block of color.
4
Task 1 Step 3 Analysis of Task For the third and last step, we had to use the various paint tools available, in order to create the landscape. This included the various shapes tools such as the circle tool, which could then be filled in with colour, for example. I also used the paint brushes, in order to make the other parts of the landscape. This is the first task completed, using various tools to create the desert landscape. This meets the requirements given from the assignment as it uses various graphical tools, whilst using the software required being Microsoft Paint. The task was also to create a landscape, which has been completed. In order to improve the task, I would have tried to use more graphical tools in paint, in order to make the image more advanced.
6
Task 2 Step 1 Step 2 For the first step for task 2, we had to create a visual outline of the ICT room that we were based in. This involved using the line tool, in Microsoft PhotoDraw, whilst using the various shape tools in the program to visually follow the outline of the Room. When doing this the canvas could be made both larger and smaller, by adjusting the width and height, through going into image and selecting the relevant command from there. For the second step for task 2, I had to recreate the various equipment and furniture within the room. I decided to use different shapes to represent each individual object, with the tables being long rectangles and the computers on top of these being squares. I then had to create the cabinets using the square tool and other objects in the room such as the projector. This then led me to using the circle tool to create the seats for the desks. Edges for lines
7
Task 2 Step 3 Analysis of Task For the third and final step, the various shapes, representing the objects, had to be colour coded. This meant creating a key as well as, which states what each of the objects mean and what colour corresponds to each object. This meant selecting the colour tools within Microsoft PhotoDraw and then using different colours for each object such as orange for the seats and brown for the cabinets. This is the second task completed, using various line and shape tools, to create the graphical image. This meets the requirements given from the assignment as it provides as a key, whilst being faithful to the room in the which it is a drawing of. In order to improve this task I would have tried to, make the images larger, in order to make the task more visible. Colour tool
9
Task 3 Step 1 Step 2 For the first step, I had to open a new file within Macromedia Fireworks, setting the size of the canvas. The window pops up when new file is selected allowing you to enter the height and width of the canvas, being 600 by 500. The canvas also had to be white, so I selected the canvas button colour to change this from blank to white. For the second step, I had to create the outline of the drawing, using the various line and shape tools. I created the desk and the computer using the square tool, whilst using the line tool, to create the man within the picture. In order to create the chair, I used the circle vector tool, manipulating this through using the dragging pointer tool. All these lines and shapes were then connected to create the full chair. The lines were also increased and decreased in width through, changing the width, through the width command. Line tool
10
Task 3 Step 3 Analysis of Task For the third and final step of task 3, I had to colour the task. This involved using the bucket tool within Fireworks, selecting each individual object separately, then choosing the different colours, through selecting the colour pallet. These colours were tried to be matched with there real life counterparts. This is the third task completed, using the various line and shape tools within the program, to create the graphical diagram. This meets the requirements of the assignment as, it contains everything that is within a workstation. In order to improve the image, I would have tried to make it more three dimensional. Bucket Tool

Task 4 Step 1 Step 2 For the second step of the graphical drawing, I had to use various lines and shapes to create the line diagram. This involved using different shapes for different parts of the process, so I had to use most of the vector tools and shapes. I also had to use the line tool to create the arrows between the shapes. All of these shapes and images then had to be connected together, to create the outline of the diagram. For the first step, I had to open a new file within Macromedia Fireworks, setting the size of the canvas. The window pops up when new file is selected allowing you to enter the height and width of the canvas, being 600 by 500. The canvas also had to be white, so I selected the canvas button colour to change this from blank to white. Shape Tool
13
Task 4 Step 3 Analysis of Task For the third and final step, I had to type in the various information for the diagram, using the text tool within fireworks. This involved creating a box to make this information, whilst choosing the font that I want to use for the text. Once this was completed, I did this same process for each individual box. This information was relevant to the diagram. This is the fourth task completed, using the various line and shape tools within the program, to create the graphical diagram. This meets the requirements of the assignment as, it details everything that is necessary for the diagram, stating how to change a log in password on a computer.. In order to improve the image, I would have tried to make the information more detailed, so it would make it easier for the user.
15
Task 5 Step 1 Step 2 For the second step, I had to use various lines and vector shape tools, to create the shapes, of the mathematical diagram. This mainly involved the circle and triangle shape tools. I also had to use the line tool to connect the diagrams together. For the first step for creating the mathematical diagram, I had to open a new file within Macromedia Fireworks, setting the size of the canvas. The window pops up when new file is selected allowing you to enter the height and width of the canvas, being 600 by 500. The canvas also had to be white, so I selected the canvas button colour to change this from blank to white. Line tool
16
Task 5 Step 3 Analysis of Task This is the fifth task completed, using the various line and shape tools within the program, to create the graphical diagram. This meets the requirements of the assignment as, it details everything that is necessary for the diagram, using various mathematical symbols and the theory’s involved with it. In order to improve this, I would have tried to have made more mathematical based objects. For the third step I had to add the various symbols and text, in order to show the mathematical part of the diagrams. This meant that I had to go into character map and copying and pasting the relevant symbols, such as the x and the y.
18
Task 6 Step 1 Step 2 For the first step for creating the eye diagram, I had to open a new file within Macromedia Fireworks, setting the size of the canvas. The window pops up when new file is selected allowing you to enter the height and width of the canvas, being 600 by 500. The canvas also had to be white, so I selected the canvas button colour to change this from blank to white. Using an eye picture as a basis for my drawing, I had imitate this, using various line tools with Fireworks. This mainly involved selecting the pencil tool and selecting the colour back, in order to draw the outline of the eye. For the ciliary body I had to use a different coloured line being blue. Pencil tool
19
Task 6 Step 3 Analysis of Task For the third and final step of task 3, I had to include the various colours within the eye diagram, which meant using the bucket tool within fireworks. I therefore selected different colours for different parts of the eye, using the bucket tool to fill in these different parts. Once this was completed I labelled each of the part of the eye using the text tool, then drew lines to connect the corresponding text to the part of the eye it goes with. This is the sixth task complete, with it meeting the requirements set by the assignment, with it giving the required labels and parts of the eye for the diagram. I believe that the diagram could have been improved further, by softening the edges of the lines, in order to make it more professional. Some of the colours could also have been changed to aid this as well. Text

Task 7 Step 1 Step 2 For the first step for creating the statistical diagram, I had to find some statistical data which was relevant to the project I’m doing. Once I found this data, I opened Excel and typed in the data into a table. This could then be used to create the charts for the next step. For the second step I took the statistical data to create the graphs. To do this I had to highlight all the data in which I wanted for the graph, then press the graph command on the toolbar. After this I selected the best available graph being the line graph, then after pressing next I typed in the titles of the axis and the main title of the graph. Once this was complete, I selected finish, with the graph being mostly, completed.
22
Task 7 Step 1 For the third and final step I decided to add colour to the graph and changed the font. This was done through right clicking on the graph and selecting format graph. I then changed the colours for each part of the graph, including the font by selecting the corresponding tabs. I then had completed the graph. Analysis of Task This is the seventh task completed, using the various line and shape tools within the program, to create the chart. This meets the requirements of the assignment as, it details everything that was found out from the statistics, whilst being a graph. In order to improve this task I would have had a variety of graphs, in order to show more statistical data.
24
Task 8 Step 1 Step 2 For the first step for creating the ICT Department Logo, I had to open a new file within Macromedia Fireworks, setting the size of the canvas. The window pops up when new file is selected allowing you to enter the height and width of the canvas, being 600 by 500. The canvas also had to be white, so I selected the canvas button colour to change this from blank to white. For the second step of the task, I had to create the logo itself. To do this I had to select the text tool. I then dragged out a text area, and was able to type out ICT department. I then changed the font accordingly, to match the style that I wanted. Text
25
Task 8 Step 3 Analysis of Task For the third and final step of the task, I added the various effects to the logo. To add an image to the centre of the logo I clicked on the insert command and selecting image. Once i a had chosen the desired image, I then moved it in line with the logo, and right clicked on the logo, selecting paste inside. This then gave the desired affect. This is the eighth task completed, using the various line and shape tools within the program, to create the graphical logo. This meets the requirements of the assignment as, it displays ICT department in the logo and uses various effects in fireworks. In order to improve the logo I would have tried to have use more effects.
27
Task 9 Step 1 Step 2 For the For the second step I had to insert the image that I wanted to use. To do this I selected insert, then selected image. Once I had selected the desired image it, it was available to create a tiled effect. For the first step for creating the tiled image, I had to open a new file within Macromedia Fireworks, setting the size of the canvas. The window pops up when new file is selected allowing you to enter the height and width of the canvas, being 600 by 500. The canvas also had to be white, so I selected the canvas button colour to change this from blank to white.
28
Task 9 Step 3 Analysis of Task For the third and final step of the task, I had to copy the image to make a tiled effect. To do this I right clicked on the image and selected copy. Then I selected paste ten times. Once I had done this, I could arrange it in a manner to create a pattern. After this I then added some effects. This is the ninth task completed, using the various line and shape tools within the program, to create the graphical diagram. This meets the requirements of the assignment as, it tiles an image and creates a pattern. In order to improve this, I would have added more effects to the task.
30
Task 10 Step 1 Step 2 For the first step for creating the ICT based image, I had to open a new file within Macromedia Fireworks, setting the size of the canvas. The window pops up when new file is selected allowing you to enter the height and width of the canvas, being 600 by 500. The canvas also had to be white, so I selected the canvas button colour to change this from blank to white. For the second step I had inserted an ICT based image into fireworks, through selecting insert, then image. Once the image was in the program it allowed me to add any necessary effects, such as colour around the image and I could skew and distort it through selecting add effects button.
31
Task 10 Step 3 For the third and final step of the task, I added text to the image, through selecting the text command and then dragging out a text box. After this I overlaid this on top of the image and made necessary changes to the text such as adding colour to it, or changing the font. This meant that the image was completed. Analysis of Task This is the tenth task completed, using the various graphical tools within the program, to create the final graphical image to the required standard. This is due to it being to do with ICT, with it using both an image and some text. In order to have improved this, I would have tried to make the task more to do with ICT, than just just being a graphical image. Text
33
Task 11 Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Analysis of Task For the first step for creating the ICT Department Logos, I had to open a new file within Macromedia Fireworks, setting the size of the canvas. The window pops up when new file is selected allowing you to enter the height and width of the canvas, being 600 by 500. The canvas also had to be white, so I selected the canvas button colour to change this from blank to white. This would be repeated across the six logo’s. For the second step of the task, I had to create the logo itself. To do this I had to select the text tool. I then dragged out a text area, and was able to type out ICT department. I then changed the font accordingly, to match the style that I wanted. This was then repeated across the six logo’s For the third and final step of the task, I added the various effects to the logo. To add an image to the centre of the logo I clicked on the insert command and selecting image. Once i a had chosen the desired image, I then moved it in line with the logo, and right clicked on the logo, selecting paste inside. This then gave the desired affect. This was repeated across the rest of the logo’s This is the eighth task completed, using the various line and shape tools within the program, to create the graphical logos. This meets the requirements of the assignment as, it displays Congleton High School in the logo and uses various effects in fireworks. The various logo’s could have been improved through adding more effects, therefore being more adventurous.

Task 12 Step 1 Step 2 and 3 Analysis of Task For the first step of the task, I had to import an image into fireworks which would be used throughout the images created from it. Once the canvas was created, I selected insert, then image. This gave the image for the rest of the task. For the second and third task was to create a variety of images, which would show my graphical skills. This included an image involving just colour, an image with colour saturation, an image with colour inversion, an image with colour separation, an image with colour balance, an image which copies and paste areas of the same image and an image which uses effects. All of these were done through making different selections within fireworks. This is the twelfth task complete, with it meeting the desired requirements, through the fact it has a selection of images which displays a number of graphical tasks. In order to improve this task, I would have tried to make the images more varied and more professional in the process.
