| 14 The Russian Content Advisory Board (RCAB) and Russian content coverage

| 15 231 active journals from the Russian Federation in Scopus of which 116 Scopus-unique Breadth of coverage Russian Federation (journals) Source: Scopus and WoS title list November 2015 Journals from Russian Federation*: Russian Federation (Scopus) Where do Russian researchers publish (2010 – 2015) Russian Federation (WoS) *Journals published by publishers located in the Russian Federation Author distribution in Russian journals (2010 – 2015) International journals 70% Russian Federatio n journals 30%

| 16 Scopus’ content strategy for local content Scopus is committed to ensure that the coverage of high quality regional journals remains a key source of differentiation. Like any journal covered in Scopus, regional journals are fully integrated in the Scopus database. Content is treated in the same way according the same high quality standards with the same functionality and tools available.

| 17 Scopus works with various reputable research organizations worldwide to ensure best regional coverage Three types of regional content selection initiatives: 1.Local content vetting – Scopus team works with local organizations to ensure the top local journals are suggested for Scopus review 2.Local boards – Korea, Thailand, Russia and China 3.Editor workshops – for Editors in a specific country with focus on how to make journals better to be at a Scopus level

| 18 Russian Content Advisory Board (RCAB) Chair person: Olga Kirillova Director of the Training and Consulting Center "School NEICON", President of the Association of Science Editors and Publishers, Moscow E-mail: ovkir@list.ru

| 19 CSAB and RCAB workflow imbedded into one

| 20 RCAB statistics Since launch 2015: 101 titles suggested for RCAB review: 49 titles positive recommendation by RCAB 51 titles negative recommendation by RCAB 32/49 titles Accepted into Scopus by CSAB 45/51 titles Not Accepted into Scopus by CSAB 24 Titles under evaluation still by CSAB

| 21 What curation programs does Scopus have in place to keep content quality at par?

| 22 Ongoing content curation of the Scopus base to ensure continuous high quality content Identification of poor performing journals using metrics and benchmarks “Radar” to predict journals with outlier performance Direct feedback from users and stakeholders on poor performing journals Re-evaluation by the Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB) Content Curation Curation of the full Scopus journal base is essential and expected by our customers and users. Review: Curate:

| 23 Metrics and benchmarks to identify poor-performing journals for re-evaluation Metric BenchmarkExplanation Self-citation rate≥ 200% The journal has a self-citation rate two times higher, or more, when compared to peer journals in its subject field. Total citation rate ≤ 50% The journal received half the number of citations, when compared to peer journals in its subject field. Impact Per Publication (IPP) ≤ 50% The journal has an IPP score half or less than the average IPP score, when compared to peer journals in its subject field. Number of articles ≤ 50% The journal produced half, or less, the number of articles, when compared to peer journals in its subject field. Number of full- text clicks on Scopus.com ≤ 50% The journal's abstract are used half as much, or less, when compared to peer journals in its subject field. Abstract usage on Scopus.com ≤ 50% The journal's full text are used half as much, or less, when compared to peer journals in its subject field. 25 | 24 “Radar” that identifies journals with outlier performance Elsevier data scientists were challenged to create a “Radar” that can identify, flag and ultimately predict outlier performance of journals Examples of predicting behavior: Total article output and sudden article output growth Shift in geographical diversity among authors and editors Shift in received citations and percentage of self-citations The “Radar” will be rolled out to flag outlier journals on a regular basis Flagged journals will be reviewed by the CSAB for continuation of Scopus coverage What is outlier performance? Big increase in article output after debut in Scopus Shift in geographical diversity

| 25 Summary Scopus has a transparent content selection process executed by the independent Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB). The CSAB works with the Russian Content Advisory Board (RCAB) to evaluate and select the highest quality Russian titles for Scopus coverage. Scopus has ongoing content curation programs in place which ensure only the highest quality content is present in the database.
