Project 3 – Confidence Intervals and Hypothesis Test By Group 2: Shaye Christoffersen, Nindy Le, Pamela Light

 1. What is your poll question?  Is transgender a mental illness?  2. What are the different methods you used to collect data? a) Convenience sample b) Simple Random sample c) Stratified sample  Matched pairs design, independent sample, and systematic were not poll questions.

Simple Random 3.) What is your point estimate for each of the methods? Yes15 No34 n49 phat0.3061 q0.6939 Point est.0.31 Convenience Yes3 No27 n30 phat0.1 q0.9 Point est.0.1 Stratified Group 1Group 2 Yes8 4 No7 11 phat0.53phat0.27 q0.47q0.73 Point est.0.53Point est.0.27

4.) Create a 95% confidence interval per method Simple Random Yes15 No34 n49 phat0.3061 q0.6939 Point est.0.31 We are 95% confident that the percentage of people who believe that transgender is a mental illness is between 19% and 45%.

95% confidence interval Yes3 No27 n30 phat0.1 q0.9 Point est.0.1 Convenience Sample We are 95% confidence that the people who believe that transgender is a mental illness is between 1% and 21 %.

95% confidence interval Group 1Group 2 Yes8 4 No7 11 phat0.53phat0.27 q0.47q0.73 Point est.0.53Point est.0.27 Stratified Sample We are only using 2 sampling methods from now in the project (SRS and convenience). Our stratified sample data is actually 2 independent samples and was gathered incorrectly by a former classmate.

 Yes, there is a significant difference because the values SRS value of.19 < p <.45 and Convenience value of.01 < p <.21.  SRS has a higher percentage of those who believe transgender is a mental illness compared to Convenience sampling. 5.) Is there a statistically significant difference between the methods?

6.) Show all the calculations for the hypothesis test between the SRS and one other sampling method.

7.) What is the test statistic?

8.) What is the p value?

9.) Based on steps 6-8, is there a significant difference between the methods?

10.) Does your hypothesis test agree with the results from your confidence interval?

We measured the grams of sugar in regular yogurt and low-fat yogurt, and than compared the difference between the two. 11.What did we measure/and the product?

12) The point estimate of the two different charts of regular yogurt.

12) The point estimate for the two low-fat yogurt’s

13) 90% confidence interval for regular yogurt.

13) The 90%confidence interval for low-fat yogurt.

14) Is there a statistically significant difference between the groups?

15)The calculations for hypothesis test between the groups.

16) The test statistic.

Yoplait regular yogurt Z = 1.44 =.9251 1 -.9251 P-value =.0749 Yoplait Lowfat Yogurt Z = -9.57 =.0001 P-value =.0000 17.) What is the p-value? Regular yogurt, Dannon, Chobani, and Tillamook Z = 2.01 =.9772 1 -.9772 P-value =.0228 Lowfat yogurt, Dannon, Chobani, and Tillamook Z = 1.55 =.7088 P-value =.2912

 Since we had to test our hypothesis for 4 groups, the methods were the same in the testing to get the right numbers. But there was a difference on the outcomes between Group’s A)and C), Dannon, Chobani, and Tillamook. To Group’s B) and D) Yoplait. 18.) Based on steps 15-17, is there a significant difference between the methods?

19) Hypothesis test with results from the confidence interval.

 A) There is sufficient evidence to reject the claim that the proportion of sugar grams in regular yogurt is less than 0.1.  B) There is sufficient evidence to reject the claim that the proportion of sugar grams in low-fat yogurt is less than 0.1  C) There is sufficient evidence to reject the claim that the proportion of sugar grams in Yoplait regular yogurt is less than 0.1  D)There is not sufficient evidence to support the claim that the proportion of sugar grams in Yoplait low-fat yogurt is greater than 0.1. 20) The conclusion of the yogurt regular versus low-fat in sugar content in grams.

 There is sufficient evidence to reject the claim that the proportion of people who believe that transgender is a mental illness is equal to.3061. Conclusion of poll survey, “Is transgender a mental illness?”
