2 In Washington State:Washington State  48% enroll in community or technical college  29% attend in-stat e public universities  17% go to out-of-state colleges  5% enroll at an in-state private institution  1% attend a private two-year institution  5% first attend a university and then transfer back to a two-year college within a year or two of high school graduation. o\o\ After high school, what?

3 Community College A Wise Choice Supportive - free tutoring, personal assistance & small faculty/student ratio Rigor - universities look closely at rigor of curriculum in core courses for transfer applicants. Successful future - higher GPAs, successful transfer or employment

4 What does “OPEN DOOR” really mean? MYTH: It’s okay if I do poorly in high school, because I can take any community or technical college class I want. Classes are easier. FACT: Open door simply means colleges offer a variety of class levels and student services to accommodate differing readiness levels. MYTH: I can enroll anytime. FACT: While students may be admitted, certain classes might be full. MYTH: I can just drop out and take the GED ® test. FACT: GED ® test is changing; price going up.

20 THINGS TO DO AFTER YOU COMPLETE THE FAFSA Once your FAFSA is processed will receive an email from the Dept. of Education verifying that your FAFSA is complete Remember to make corrections to your FAFSA after you complete your 2013 taxes Verification: If you have a received an email or letter from the colleges you’ve listed for verification, be sure to submit copies of your current tax forms to receive financial aid
