The Regional Agenda For our Future policy expectation - ‘develop regional dimension to planning and delivery of higher education’ to: Better meet local and regional needs, providing clear progression pathways from FE etc Eradicate nugatory local competition and wasteful duplication of provision Support the development of critical mass Deliver a more coherent system of HE providers, including FE colleges

The Regions Three regions: South East South West North & Mid Open University in all three regions All directly funded FECs and HEIs involved

Regional Strategies Audit of current course/module provision including areas of duplication Identification of: key progression routes new HE provision required within the region opportunities for more coordinated widening access activities opportunities for joint work with employers collaborative capital developments/shared services

Delivery New HE provision to meet regional learner/employer needs (45 bids) Reward of regional redistribution of credits between institutions to reduce duplication Above supported by 5% top-slice on credit allocations New part-time Foundation Degrees - One Wales funding (37 bids) Regional Initiatives Funding for regional shared services developments (7 bids)

Regional Strategy Outcomes New HE provision: South East: STEM subjects, Modern Foreign Languages, Food Production, Health Science South West: Franchised credits to FECs, Engineering, Health Science North and Mid: Engineering, Maths, Creative Media, Welsh Medium FDs (Health/Social Care and IT), High Performance Computing, Health Science Foundation Degrees: currently being finalised - involve HEIs and FECs.
