www.footprintfutures.org.uk ? Our greenhouse gas emissions This graph shows us how much greenhouse gases various activities release. So if we want to really reduce our emissions significantly, then we need to concentrate on the things which release most greenhouse gases.

www.footprintfutures.org.uk ? Working in a factory Many people are too poor to refuse employment so they work in poor conditions for very little money. This is one of the reasons why some things we buy can be so cheap.

www.footprintfutures.org.uk ? Peak oil We are running out of oil and other fossil fuels…

www.footprintfutures.org.uk ? Copper quarry We are running out of other things as well as oil. Copper is used in electronic gadgets like phones and computers.

www.footprintfutures.org.uk ? Rainforest Deforestation The rainforest is cut down to plant soya to feed our dairy cows, to ranch beef cattle, to grow biodiesel and hardwood products. When the trees are cut down they are often burned to make way for new crops. When this happens all of the CO 2 that the trees had been storing is released into the atmosphere causing more climate change.

www.footprintfutures.org.uk ? Pesticide poisoning A third of the worlds pesticides are used in the cotton industry, causing sickness for many thousands of farmers.

www.footprintfutures.org.uk ? Sea levels rising As a result of climate change, the oceans get warmer and expand. Glaciers on land melt into the sea and the oceans rise. Millions of people who live in low lying coastal areas will lose their homes

www.footprintfutures.org.uk ? Food shortages Land that was once used to grow food is now used to grow crops to make biodiesel. As the oil runs out the prices increase, and food becomes more expensive.
