19 Best Management Practices (BMP) Cost-Share Program Best Management Practices (BMP) Cost-Share Program Administered by DCR thru local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs). 20 Planting Winter Cover Crops absorb leftover nutrients in the field and decrease the likelihood of them entering our water bodies. Then release them for the next grain crop reducing the fertilizing needs. Tidewater SWCD assisted with the implementation of 4,778 acres of winter cover crops last year.

21 Split Application of Nitrogen on Small Grains and Corn totaled 15,587 acres This BMP practice allows farmers to target application of fertilizer at the most efficient time for plant uptake and reduce risk of loss to the environment

22 Nutrient Management Plan Writing and Implementation Nutrient Management Plans are working documents that farmers use for a environmentally friendly recommended amount of nutrients that their crops need. Tidewater SWCD implemented 19,894 acres of Nutrient Management Plan Writing.
