3. Answering Scaffolding Questions
Read all the directions carefully.
Read the question before reading the document.
Pay attention to the details of the picture or the graph including titles, headings, etc. Underline or highlight key ideas and important words.
Find the answer using the document. Be sure to stick to the information that will answer the question.
Answer the question(s)in complete sentences.

4. Using A Graphic Organizer
Use a detailed graphic organizer instead of a rough draft to make writing the essay easier.
Fill out the graphic organizer completely. (Try your best to fill out any outside information boxes as well).
Do not worry about complete sentences, but be sure to use information that relates to the task. Remember key words and phrases.

5. The Introduction
Take the introduction from the task and historical context and try to restate it in your own words.
Be sure to include a topic sentence or main idea.
Make sure it is at least 3-5 sentences.
***Remember this is an informational piece of writing, not a narrative. You are not to use an engaging beginning***

6. The Body Use your graphic organizer.
Make sure the body follows the introduction/task.
Be sure to answer all parts of the task.
Focus on the documents you understand first. Use at least the required number of documents. (You can always use them all)
Use outside information that connects to the task when you can. Outside information can be document such as what you have learned from text books, Internet resources, classroom assignments, etc.
Cite documents in the body (Doc 1).

7. The Conclusion Do not include new information.
Summarize the introduction and body.

*Use information from the body to
highlight the main idea.
Be sure to have 3-4 sentences with appropriate transitional words such as:
