We. Need. Money!: Setting up financial plans for our organization Take out your typed mission statements and list of services.

If you have your list of services… You then have to know that all of this costs money, time, and manpower…which basically all ties back to money. What you need to figure out is how you will get money for your organization, and how you are going to spend it. This is a not-for-profit organization. Though you are allowed to give salaries to people, every other penny must return to the purpose of the organization.

Your lesson in economics Lesson #1: If you don’t have money, or something to trade, working is difficult. Lesson #2: You need more money than you think you do. A lower middle class salary begins at about $40,000. A national non-profit executive makes around $150,000. Every piece of paper you print, every banner you make, and every auditorium you rent will cost money up front. Lesson #3: Lots of profiting corporations enjoy giving money in order to boost their good name. Just choose wisely if you ask for corporate sponsorship.

What YOU need to determine Budgets and services must fit together. If your budget exceeds what you are able to raise in funds, you need to cut services from your organization. BE REALISTIC. Think about the following schedule: Local organizations: – <$2.5 million Regional/state organizations: – $3-10 million National organizations: – $25-75 million International organizations: – <$75 million
