5. Assessment Overview  4,000 Word essay worth 35% of the course grade  5,000 word essay Worth 50% of the course grade  1,000 word reflective report Worth 5% of the course grade  Short viva/ interview worth 10% of the course grade influences the grading of one of the essays

6. The 4,000 word essay  An essay which contextualises a topic describes and defines the topic using academic materials and references  Sets the context for the next essay  No primary data

7. The Viva  To demonstrate your mastery of the topic and the veracity of the submitted assessment (15-30 minutes)

8. Selecting TIS topic (Essay 1):  Constrained by the areas identified by the departments  Needs to be limited to only secondary data  Must allow a critical examination of existing knowledge of a topic

9. Themes of Essay #1  Original Theme/Topic not undertaken previously and not reworked.  Appropriate themes based on academic theory critical and questioning  essays which are very descriptive are unlikely to gain a good mark! argue a point or question assumed academic wisdom
