ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL PLAN Rachelle Ryan EDU671: Fundamentals of Educational Research Instructor Frederick Ansoff Thursday, February 27, 2014
2
Area of focus: The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a significant difference in the final grade scores for students who do and those who not have access to learning on iPads in a classroom.
3
Related Literature: Researchers also state that students who have access to iPads are more likely to score higher on their academic tests. The iPads can be used and are beneficial in all the academic subject areas, such as: Math Science Literacy
4
Variables: 4 th Grade Students Classroom 1: Classroom 2: Instruction with iPads Instruction without the use of iPads. Teacher and 22 Students
5
Research Question: Is there a difference, in test scores, between a classroom that uses an iPad and one classroom that does not use an iPad?
6
Intervention/Innovation: Integrate technology Depending on the activity or lesson will differentiate instruction to individualize learning.
7
Data collection: Unit exam grades In class assessment grades End of the year grades Standardized test grades Report Cards Quantitative because I am going to evaluate whether there is a statistically significant difference in test scores or grades for those who do or do not use iPads.

Data Analysis and Interpretation: Data analysis is conducted through assessment results on in class tests, unit exams, and standardized test. The only way I can tell if the students are learning the same, more, or less on the iPads is by looking at the student’s final grade scores. Teacher will create a chart that shows the students grades from the classroom that used iPads and the grades of the students who did not have access to iPads.
10
iPad Classroom: eBooks Word processors/speech to text SpellingCity application Speedsheets, iWork Numbers, MathMachine, or FieldProtrators MindMeister Digital flash cards: StudyBlue Speed Geography Lite Applications/software Traditional Classroom: Printed books Hand write assignments/notes Spelling Worksheets Hands on manipulatives Graphic organizer worksheets Index cards: flash cards Globe Worksheets Textbooks The students will be learning the same curriculum, but the material will be presented in different ways.
11
Math Example: Graphing Worksheet Graphing Online
12
Action Plan: During the summer before school- Teacher attends workshops and seminars. The first few weeks of school- Teacher will train the students how to use them, and safely. Teacher gives guidelines and rules. The other classroom that is not using iPads for instruction will begin learning at the same time. The data will be collected after each test, assignment, and any grade given.
